The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Library contains a Special Collections that is especially strong in the areas of history of medicine, medical biography, dermatology, and venereal diseases. Books in the collection date from 1525. The SIU School of Medicine Archives contains print and non-print materials of historic value emanating from the School. Popular items in this collection include curriculum documents and the School's yearbooks. A small number of manuscript materials are housed in Special Collections, mostly related to the central Illinois region. Caduceus: a museum journal for the health sciences was published from 1985 - 1997 by the Department of Medical Humanities of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Caduceus was indexed by the National Library of Medicine, and its article citations appear in PubMed.
